Penfield (USA) (1) 1 Camberley Town (0) 2
7th August 2005 : Arsenal Tournament U-17 Plate Final
at Royal Holloway College, Egham

The Allied Counties squad picked up Camberley Town's first piece of silverware of the season with a 2-1 win over American side Penfield but it could have been so different after Camberley had two players sent off.

Playing two halves of 30 minutes each, Camberley had the better of the possession through out the game. With the exception of two shots at keeper Alex Bell, the American side posed a minimal threat on the Camberley goal. Despite shots from Daryl Hetzel and Jason Reeves which were saved or narrowly off target and a goal from Jayson Benskins disallowed for offside, Camberley found themselves behind at the break. A floated free kick looked to have been gathered by Alex Bell. He was unfortunately unable to hold the ball as he was challenged in the air and the ball dropped nicely for a Penfield midfielder to slide the ball home at the back post. Camberley were unable to respond as the half time whistle went immediately after play was restarted.

Camberley pressed in the second half and for a while it looked as if Camberley were not going to make the breakthrough but halfway through the second half, an inswinging corner from the left hand from substitute Dean Frampton found Drew King at the far post to head home from close range. With eight minutes remaining Camberley grabbed the lead. A long kick from substitute keeper Gary Phillips was cleared to the left hand side of the penalty area where Dean Frampton curled home a dipping shot into the top far hand corner of the net.

With the lead and less than ten minutes to go, Camberley were in a good position but then Jamie Hoppitt got himself sent off after a decision did not go his way and he said something to the referee's assistant, who immediately called the referee over and the red card was brandished. Two minutes later Camberley had an obvious penalty appeal turned away by the referee. Graham Townsend then said one to many words in the referee's direction and he too was sent from the field. Fortunately Camberley only had to hold out with nine men for three minutes which they managed comfortably by keeping possession of the ball
