MERSTHAM 0 CAMBERLEY TOWN SYL 5
The Under 18 Southern Youth League side put in an
excellent performance to clinch the Southern Youth
League Championship as they comfortably won 5-0 at
Merstham this evening. The scoring was opened with an
own goal after 12 minutes. That lead was extended four
minutes before the break when Jamie Madden was tripped
in the penalty area and Mark Bird slotted home the
penalty. Merstham had hoped to come back at Camberley in
the second half but a well struck 50th minute goal from
Jacob Peace ended any hoped that the home side had. It
became 4-0 on 57 minutes when Matt Barclay was hand to
tuck home the rebound from a Jacob Peace effort. The
scoring was completed ten minutes later when Connor
Bloomfield took a Tom Hickey pass in his stride and
executed a perfect lob over the keeper. It has been an
excellent season for the side scoring 96 goals in league
competition and conceding just eight. Well done lads -
CHAMPIONS and deservedly so.

The Allied Counties League side's chances of winning their
title have diminished somewhat over the past week. On Monday
night Farnborough defeated Bracknell Town 4-1 at Bisley and
last night they managaed to squeeze a 1-0 win over Ascot
United. Those two wins put Farnboough on the same number of
points as Camberley but with a better goal difference. Their
final match is next Monday against Binfield at Bisley.
Bottom bar one side Binfield will have to win the match by
11 clear goals for Camberley to win the title which
(unfortunately) is unlikely.

a shot blocked by the keeper. Camberley took a decisive
advantage on 40 minutes when Josh Gostage's mishit shot

home game which had been switched to Krooner Park.
Farnborough have three more matches to play and require six
points for the title and those three matches have to be

The 1st teams season ended at Banstead's Merland Rise ground
today. It was the final time that this fixture will be
played on this ground as Epsom are moving on to ground share
with Merstham next season after 17 years at Banstead. The
match had a friendly feel about it until the 26th minute
when Gavin Muir chipped the keeper to give Camberley the
lead. Camberley could have gone two up but Muir saw another
effort tipped against the inside of the post and run across
the goal line before it was cleared. Robbie Burns levelled
things fro Epsom before Jamie Hatfield struck to give the
hosts the lead a minute before the break. Former Krooner
Robbie Burns struck again on 55 minutes to make it 3-1 but
Camberley fought back again to make it 3-2. Muir's shot was

his leg back in September, with the winning goal in a close
match against fellow high flyers Epsom & Ewell. The decisive
moment came on 72 minutes when George Hardy headed home
Ronnie Green's cross from 6 yards out at the back post.
Camberley finished the match effectively with nine players
after two of the three substitutes used had to lead the
pitch with injuries, but Camberley held out for the win.

CAMBERLEY TOWN 4 COVE 4
Our promotion chances took another dent at the
hands of Cove after our visitors pegged us back twice in the
final few minutes despite being down to 10 men to clinch a
point. Cove got off to a good start scoring twice in the
space of 3 minutes just before the half hour through a Tom
McGarry penalty and a nod in from Bimal Balal to take a two
goal lead. Hinga Amara reduced the deficit from the spot
soon after to send Camberley in 1-2 down at the break.
Camberley rallied in the second half and a tap in from
Julian Sills and a low shot into the bottom left corner
from Ronnie Green put Camberley 3-2 ahead. Cove had Steve
Brown sent off but levelled things on 85 minutes when Steve
Duff fired home. Camberley hit back almost immediately with
Julian Sills tapping home from close range to make it 4-3
but in the second minute of stoppage time, Steve Duff struck
again running onto an excellent through ball from ex-krooner
Chris Shearer to give Cove a share of the points.

Camberley bounced back to

come back from a goal down. Raynes Park Vale took the lead
on 13 minutes against the run of play. Camberley dominated
proceedings but had to wait until the 62nd minute before
they equalised through Martin Girling's prod home. Eight
minutes later, Hinga Amara notched his 13the goal of the

with an excellent 4-1 win over a skilful Boreham Wood side.
Boreham Wood started the better of the sides but it was

minutes. Boreham Wood hit back to equalise on 35 minutes.
Camberley reacted well and retook the lead a minute later
with a 30 yard strike from Joe Paris which sent Camberley in
at the break with a 2-1 lead. Camberley had a goal
disallowed before Charlie Oakley made it 3-1. A surging run
and cross from Ben Acton saw Connor Bloomfield lay the ball
back for Jon Ashford to add the fourth just before the end.

CAMBERLEY TOWN 0 COVE 4
Camberley's defence of the El
Records Cup came to a disappointing end as local rivals Cove
came and deservedly won 4-0 at Krooner Park. It was a day
when former 'krooners' returned to make us suffer. Cove took
a first half lead from the penalty spot through Tom McGarry.
Alex Jeffers then showed Camberley what they were missing up
front, scoring either side of half time to give Cove an
unassailable 3-0 lead. Two minutes after Jeffer's second
goal Darren Dobinson completed the scoring. We wish Cove all
the best in the final which will be on Friday, April 23rd at

Camberley had a 'bad day at the office' today as
they crashed 3-0 at a very wet Ash United. Camberley were

opening few minutes, Ash took the lead on 10 minutes when

completed Ash's deserved victory with their third goal just
after the hour mark.

DORKING 1 CAMBERLEY TOWN 1
Camberley had the opportunity to close the gap on leaders
North Greenford with a trip to bottom
two side Dorking, but a resolute Dorking defence had the last
word as they denied Camberley a much needed victory.
Camberley had the majority of the possession in the first
half but could not break down Dorking's defence and in fact
went in at the break 1-0 down when a cross into the penalty
area from near the halfway line somehow evaded everyone and
ended up in the back of the Camberley net. Dorking could
have gone two ahead when their only clear second half chance
hit the post. From then on Camberley dominated. Camberley
had shots cleared off the line three times, hit the bar, hit
the post, had a goal disallowed, saw the keeper make five
excellent saves, three of which were on his goal line before
Hinga Amara scored a deserved equaliser on 90 minutes.
Camberley could have won the game in stoppage time but for
another goal line clearance

Camberley kept up the pressure on North Greenford United with

but it was Camberley who snatched the lead in the first
minute of stoppage time when Julian Sills headed home John
Finnieston's cross. The second half saw Camberley get the
ball in the back of the net again just after the hour mark
but it was disallowed for a Julian Sills handball. Within
two minutes Sandhurst Town were awarded a penalty but Dan
Simmonds fired it over the crossbar. With Sandhurst pushing
for an equaliser, Camberley sealed the win on the counter
attack when Jacob Peace ran almost half the length of the
pitch, evade two challenges before slotting the ball past

CAMBERLEY TOWN 1 GUILDFORD CITY 0
Camberley move to within five points of league leaders North
Greenford United with a hard earned win over Guildford
City. Camberley came in to the game looking for revenge for
the 2-0 defeat suffered at the Spectrum just 17 days ago.
Camberley started well with a chance for Ronnie Green after
just two minutes and it was Ronnie who was instrumental in
the opening goal, jinking one way then the other before
being brought down in the penalty area after 19 minutes.
John Finnieston (pictured left) stepped up to calmly slot
the penalty home. Both sides had further chances to add to
the score in the first half but neither keeper was troubled
too much. The second half saw Guildford City push forward
more and could have had an equaliser but for two excellent
tackles from Dale Webb and Stacey Thripp in the Camberley
defence. Camberley managed to hold on to the win despite
eight minutes of stoppage time. The Reserves were due to
have played at Hemel Hempstead but the match was called off
due to a waterlogged pitch..

recently rejoined Bookham from Epsom & Ewell. Camberley hit
back and levelled the score through Ronnie Green's calm
finish on 50 minutes. It wasn't until the 80th minute and a

CAMBERLEY TOWN ACL 3 THATCHAM TOWN 2
It was heart in mouth time at the end of this Allied Counties
league game as it came to a nervous climax. Camberley had a
great first half against one of the title favourites,
Thatcham Town. Thatcham had only conceded four goals in six
matches prior to this game but Camberley made the best of
their set pieces and took a three goal lead within the
opening 25 minutes. All three chances fell to and were taken
by Charlie Oakley (left) who unusually tucked them all away
with his head. Thatcham came out a different side in the
second half and pulled an early goal back. Despite having a
player sent off, Thatcham kept pressing Camberley and
reduced the deficit even further with just under ten minutes
remaining. Camberley held firm, despite a couple of narrow
escapes, secured all three points to move them within two
points of the Division leaders Alton Town |

After just over two weeks without a competitive match,
Camberley looked rusty and out of form against a Guildford

well struck efforts to clinch all three points. The first
fell to half time substitute Tom Tydeman who sent a
sensational volley into the top left hand corner from just

final few minutes through Danny Elgar after Camberley's Lee

- The results saw Camberley Town finish top and FC
Bracknell finish second and these two sides competed in
the final. Camberley took a 1-0 lead but were pegged
back with an FC Bracknell equaliser. There was no extra
time and the final went to a penalty shoot out. After 9
penalties each Camberley edged through to win the shoot
out 8-7.

- AFC WIMBLEDON 1 CAMBERLEY TOWN 1 (after extra
time - AFC Wimbledon win 6-5 on penalties)
- Camberley just missed out on a place in the 4th Round of
the Surrey Senior Cup after soaking up a lot of AFC
Wimbledon pressure. Camberley set out to frustrate AFC
Wimbledon and stop them playing their flowing style of
football by closing them down quickly when they had
possession and it did not make for a good quality game.
After 90 minutes the game was goal less and went into extra
time. Wes Kendrick, fresh of the subs bench gave Camberley a
surprise lead firing in from just outside the penalty area
in the first period of extra time, after good work from
another sub, Jacob Peace, but in the second period AFC
Wimbledon struck back when they were awarded a penalty. In
the end it went to a penalty shoot-out. The first ten
penalties were all slotted away convincingly before the AFC
Wimbledon keeper pulled off a good save from Jason Short's
effort. The hosts then converted the twelfth to win the
shoot out 6-5. AFC Wimbledon meet either Chipstead, Egham or
Colliers Wood in the next round.

- BRITISH ARMY UNDER-23s 5 CAMBERLEY TOWN
UNDER-23s 2
- A representative Under 23 side travelled to the Military
Stadium this evening to take on The British Army Under 23
side. Camberley started well and took the lead through Jacob
Peace and went on to extend the lead with a goal from Shaun
Davies. The Army hit back and reduced the deficit by half
time. The second half saw the Army side fight back and
forced an equaliser. Both sides made a number of changes and
the Army took advantage to run out 5-2 winners.

- The Club held their first Annual Sports Quiz this
evening which was won by the Weybourne Boys who finished a
clear 25 points clear of their rivals. It was a highly
successful night which raised much needed funds for the
club.

- Onto football matters. Our scheduled match against
Chertsey Town on February 6th has been moved to Saturday,
May 1st due to Chertsey's participation in the F.A.
Carlsberg Vase that day. We wish Chertsey the best of luck
against the reigning holders Whitley Bay. A few others dates
for the diary. This weekend Camberley Town Reserves will be
travelling to Chalfont St Peter. We are awaiting further
Suburban fixtures which should be released this week.
Finally the remaining Southern Youth League matches have
been given dates. They are at home to Hanworth Villa (Feb
1), Guildford City (Mar 8), Hartley Wintney (Mar 15) and
Fleet Spurs (Mar 29). The home tie against either Dorking or
Westfield in the Southern Youth League Cup has yet to be
arranged. The away fixtures are Fleet Town (Feb 15),
Cranleigh (Feb 23), Cove (Apr 7), Sandhurst Town (Apr 14)
and Hanworth Villa (Apr 21).

- EGHAM TOWN 4 CAMBERLEY TOWN 2
- Camberley crashed to just their third defeat in the
league as Egham gained revenge the midweek cup defeat.
Camberley started slowly and poorly, finding themselves two
goals behind after just nine minutes and then a third goal
behind on twenty minutes. Things were to get worse for
Camberley in the second half with a fourth goal that did
have a suspicion of offside about it. Camberley finally got
on the scoresheet on 85 minutes when Hinga Amara had his
penalty saved but he followed up to poke the rebound home.
In stoppage time Wes Kendrick added a second for Camberley,
latching onto a long Darren Barnard pass. In all, Egham
deserved their win

- CAMBERLEY TOWN RESERVES 5 NORTH GREENFORD UNITED
1
- It was better news at Krooner Park for the reserves who
were also involved in a six goal match as they ran out 5-1
winners over North Greenford United. Ben Acton gave
Camberley the lead and that was soon added to by Joe Wilson
before North Greenford pulled a goal back. The two goal
advantage was restored when Shaun Davies scored his first of
the day. Jamie Hoppitt provided the cross for Rob Lance to
head home Camberley's fourth.
Shaun Davies got his second and Camberley's fifth to
complete the scoring.

- CAMBERLEY TOWN SYL 6 SANDHURST TOWN 2
- The Southern Youth League side maintained their 100%
league record against Sandhurst but had to come from behind
to do it. Sandhurst took the lead after just 5 minutes after
the Camberley defence allowed two players through to
pressure the Camberley keeper and then on 13 minutes
Sandhurst added another with a well taken finish. A quick
reply was needed and it came within thirty seconds as Tom
Hickey drove a low shot home. Camberley pressed on for the
equaliser which came in the 27th minute when Hickey struck
again. Another low shot two minutes later from Mike Murrell
saw Camberley take the lead for the first time. The killer
blow came just three minutes into the second half when Zane
Percival intercepted a back pass to slot home the fourth.
The result was put beyond doubt with further goals from Josh
Gostage on 58 minutes and Sam Berridge on 68 minutes.
Camberley had the ball in the net twice more before the end
but both were ruled out for offside.

- CAMBERLEY TOWN 3 EGHAM TOWN 0
- Camberley earned themselves a Quarter Final tie away to
South Park in the El Records Premier Challenge Cup with a
3-0 over Egham Town. There was not too much between the
sides in the early stages but Camberley got the break
through with five minutes to go before the half time break
when John Finnieston struck after Camberley had two attempts
on goal blocked. Within three minutes Camberley extended
that lead when Hinga Amara added the second with the aid of
a goalpost. Egham attempted a second half fightback but
found the Camberley defence difficult to break down. A
defensive mistake in the 89th minute allowed George Gould to
add a third for Camberley. The Quarter Final tie at South
Park will take place on March 9th. Kick Off time to be
confirmed but it is likely to be 7:45pm.

CAMBERLEY TOWN SYL 2 CARSHALTON ATHLETIC 4
In the first match for any of the four main sides for over
a month, the Allied Counties side made this exit from this
seasons Surrey Youth Cup at Carshalton Athletic but only
after taking the hosts to extra time. Carshalton took the
game to Camberley from the start and deservedly took the
lead although it did come directly from a corner. Camberley
hit back and were awarded a penalty after Joe Pantony was
felled in the box. Kieran Carey thumped home the spot kick.
Camberley then took the lead just before half time when
George Homewood drove home a shot from 20 yards. The second
half saw Carshalton push on for the equaliser but the back
four defended well and keeper Ryan Howells made a number of
excellent saves but with less than 10 minutes remaining
Carshalton got the goal they were looking for to take the
game into extra time. Early in extra time, Carshalton took
the lead with a well placed header. Despite tired legs,
Camberley threw everything they had to get an equaliser but
with just seconds remaining Carshalton Athletic pout the
game beyond doubt with a fourth goal. We wish Carshalton the
best of luck with their Semi Final.

Colliers
Wood United held an early pitch inspection and have
announced that their pitch would not be ready for use by
Wednesday when their Surrey Senior Cup tie against Egham was
due to be played, so as a result, our El Records Cup match
against Egham originally set for Tuesday night is back on.
The good news is that Krooner Park has recovered quickly.
The snow has melted and any surface water has drained away.
There is no waterlogging of the pitch and even most of the
pitch markings have remained. Other area's of the club have
also cleared and there will be no problem with car parking
as all of the snow has also cleared from there. |
|
|
|
- We have also been given the new dates for the matches
postponed in the past week. The home match with Wembley
which was postponed on the 12th will now take place on
Tuesday, February 23rd with a 7:45pm kick off. The match
against Chessington & Hook which was postponed yesterday
will now be on Tuesday, April 13th with the kick off being
at 7:45pm. This means we will have five of our last six
matches at home
|
|
Saturday, January 16th 2010 |
|
|
|
- Both matches were postponed today due to snow covered
pitches but the big thaw is under way. Temperatures up to
around 6 degrees centigrade today and there is a possibility
we will be playing on Tuesday. At this moment our match
against Egham Town in the League Cup has been called off as
Egham have to play their Surrey Senior Cup match (which
takes priority) at Colliers Wood on Wednesday. Colliers Wood
have a pitch inspection on Monday morning. If the Surrey
Senior Cup game is off then our League Cup game may well be
back on again. If Colliers Wood and Egham do play on
Wednesday then our League Cup tie at home to Egham is likely
to replace our league match away to Egham next Saturday. It
is all if's and but's at the moment. We will know more over
the next 48 hours.

This
is the state of play with just 48 hours to go before
Saturday's Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League match
against Chessington & Hook United. The photo to your right
was taken at 2:30pm this afternoon. Krooner Park has
approximately a covering of snow between two and three
inches thick and it is slowly defrosting with the
present temperature running around 2 degrees centigrade this
afternoon. The pitch surface beneath at this moment is
frozen. Snow in the car park area behind the goal at the
Crabtree end is even deeper at three to five inches deep.
You can get a car into the ground but the entry road a very
slippery. It is better behind the clubhouse where some of
the snow has melted but the roadway resembles a bit of a
lake where the water has not had anywhere to drain away to.
At this moment in time the match on Saturday looks doubtful
even if we could clear the pitch of all the snow. One good
sign is that temperatures are expected to climb on Friday to
around four degrees and that will speed the melting process
up. No decision will be made on this weekend's game until
late Friday or early Saturday

The fourth round draw for the El Records Premier Challenge Cup
was released today. We continue our defence of the Cup at
home to Egham Town next Tuesday. An away trip to South Park
awaits the winner of the tie. In the other three matches
Cove will be at home to either Badshot Lea or Croydon
Municipal, Horley Town will host Guildford City and Chertsey
Town will be at home to Bedfont.

This weekend's Suburban League North Division match at
Chalfont St Peter has already been postponed. With the snow
just starting to melt, a fresh load fell on the pitch last
night. Temperatures are due to rise over the next few days
but it is felt that there will be insufficient time for the
extra snow to melt, the frozen pitch underneath to defrost
and the excess water to drain off.

|
This evening's Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League
match against Wembley was called off yesterday evening when
it was sure that the covering of snow across the pitch would
not be melting over the next 24 hours and with the
temperature not due to climb much over 1 or 2 degrees
centigrade today the pitch would still be frozen underneath.
Thursday night's Southern Youth League match against
Hanworth Villa has also been postponed.

Thursday, January 7th 2010 |

These are the latest pictures of Krooner Park under 9 inches
of snow, taken this afternoon. All the good will and effort
unfortunately will not be able to get this weekend's games
on. With freezing nights and more snow forecast we are now heading for a month without a
fixture. The next one is Tuesday against Wembley.

This evening's Suburban League North Division game against

weekend's fixtures will also be in doubt.

The league have re-arranged yesterdays postponed match against
Badshot Lea for Tuesday, April 20th which will mean we will
finish the season with two home matches. A few other
arranged fixtures to mention. For the Reserves, Following
the home matches against Cove on January 5th and Boreham Wood
on January 9th we will be away to Chalfont St Peter on
Saturday, January 9th with a 3pm kick off. In the Allied
Counties League, the remainder of the fixtures have been
announced and are on the Allied Counties results page. Our
next home match in that league is on February 11th against
Thatcham. The lads are next in action at Alton Town on
January 11th. Kick off time is expected to be 7:45pm. In the
Southern Youth League we have been scheduled to take on
Hanworth Villa on January 14th at Krooner Park and a week
later, on January 21st we are at home again to Sandhurst
Town. Both matches kick off at 7:45pm.

Yet another match bites the dust or in this case, the frost.
We were vary close to getting this match on with the
majority of the pitch defrosted but a 10 foot wide strip of
ground which was in the shadow of the factory over the far
side during the morning meant that it had not defrosted
sufficiently and was deemed dangerous and the match was
called off just after midday. North Greenford's 3-2 win at
Bedfont means that we lost our top spot and drop to second
on goal difference but have a game in hand.
