Egham Town (1) 2 Camberley Town (1) 3
28th April 2007 : Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division

On a hot sunny day, Camberley marked the end of the league season with a win at the Runnymede Stadium. Both sides started slowly, giving the game an end of season feel about it. Both sides though, wanted to win the game in order to improve their league position, Camberley especially as we are looking for a 6th place finish and our highest league placing of the season. It was a game of several goals despite there being few chances.

Camberley's first serious effort on goal on 11 minutes resulted in the lead being taken. Camberley had won the ball in midfield and it was played by John Finneston, out to Ben Cobbett on the left. Cobbett returned the favour on reaching the edge of the penalty area by sliding back across for Finneston who side footed the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net. The lead did not last long unfortunately, as on 16 minutes a corner was met by an unmarked Mark Ottley, who powered his header past Clayton. Both sides had chances to add to the score shortly after. The best falling to Camberley who had Sam Broadbent denied twice through as his efforts, one after the other were blocked by defenders and just before half time Martyn Williams had a header wide of the mark.

Egham could have taken the lead on 66 minutes when the Camberley defence was carved wide open and Levi Coleman took the ball through and attempted to take the ball round keeper Carl Clayton, but Clayton was able to get a hand to the ball and stop it dead in it's tracks and deny the chance. That was to prove pivotal as two minutes later, Camberley attacked on the left of the Egham penalty area through Alex Jeffers. As Jeffers attempted to play the ball past an Egham defender, the ball made contact with the Egham defenders hand and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot. Tom McGarry stepped up to fire his penalty under the diving body of the keeper, who had guessed the right way, to give Camberley the lead.

On 71 minutes Camberley had the ball in the net again through an acrobatic effort from Dan Ker, but Ker was judged to have pushed a defender as the cross came in and it was disallowed. Egham hit back with a couple of chances themselves with  the best fo them falling to Lusengo heading wide. Egham too had the ball in the Camberley net soon after but that too was rulled out for an offence.

As the came neared it's end both sides went for the win. Lusengo hit the underside of the Camberley crossbar with a thumping shot on 79 minutes which Camberley managed to scramble away. Two minutes later Camberley were denied another penalty as keeper Clark Gooding was holding down substitute David Clarke in an effort to allow his defenders to clear the danger from Ben Cobbett's corner.

Camberley looked to have won the game when, on 85 minutes, Dan Ker lost possession of the ball in the Egham half and Egham broke quickly down the left hand side of the pitch. A long ball down to Coleman saw him centre for an unmarked Adam Pero who slotted the ball into an empty net.

Camberley were not going to give up on the three points and in the final minute of normal time, an outswinging cross from the right wing by Tom McGarry was met by a late run from Martyn Williams and he crashed home a header from close range to clinch the victory. Egham had one further chance to level things during the seven minutes of stoppage time. It came from a free kick from Pero  that curled just wide of the Camberley post.
