There were five goals, three penalties and a sending off as Camberley secured a spot in the Aldershot Senior Cup Final. Both sides showed their attacking intent from the start and both had chances inside the first five minutes. Ash went close on 3 minutes with a shot that needed a goal line clearance. Within 60 seconds Camberley got the ball at the other end and Finneston forced a fine save from Chris Andrews in the Ash goal. Joe Paris had another chance for Camberley soon after but fired wide

It was no surprise that the game got an early goal and it came from the home side on 9 minutes. An inswinging corner from the left was met by a glancing header from Matt Morris and found it's way into the Camberley net off the back post. Both sides continued to look for further goals. Matt Brunt fired wide of the left post for Ash and John Finneston fired over for Camberley. Ten minutes from the break Karl Dallaway had a good chance to make it 2-0 when a cross from the left but the ball came to him too quickly and he could only direct it wide of the left hand post. Camberley hit back with another chance for Joe Paris but he too, was unable to hit the target.

Just as Ash thought they would go in at half time with a one goal lead, Mitch While dispossessed Chris Atkins on the edge of the Ash penalty area and after twisting and turning to make room for a shot, he planted it low past Chris Andrews to send the two teams in at half time level at 1-1.

The second half continued as the first half finished and on 49 minutes Camberley had the lead. A long clearance from Chris Foster was controlled well by Mitch While and he surged towards the edge of the penalty area. Joe Paris, up in support, pointed to where he wanted the ball played. While's pass was inch perfect and Paris slotted the ball low past the outstretched right hand of the advancing Andrews to register his first goal for the club.

Ash, as expected fought back and just after the hour mark, leveled things in a slightly controversial style. A shot for goal from the edge of the penalty area had Foster beaten in the Camberley goal and struck the arm of Jamie Hoppitt who had no time to react, before flying over the crossbar. The referee's assistant did not signal any offence and the referee initially signalled for a corner. The Ash players, incensed by the decision, surrounded the referee, who in turn waved them away, the players continued to surround the referee until he went to speak to his assistant. The officials between them then decided to award the penalty and Jamie Hoppitt was sent off for handball. Gavin Evans stepped up to fire the penalty low into the left corner. Ben Cobbett almost immediately made way for Ian Messenger to enter the fray and get Camberley's defence but up to full strength

Now with a man advantage and the scores level, Ash went looking for the winner and seven minutes after the first penalty they were awarded another. This time a shot hit the arm of Paul Dadson. The referee' s assistant flagged and the referee pointed to the spot. Gavin Evans stepped up to take the penalty again but this time Chris Foster read it well and produced an excellent save to keep Camberley on level terms.

Like Ash, twelve days ago when they had a player sent off at Krooner in the league match, Camberley resorted to defending and then attempting to catch Ash on the break but also closing the opposition down immediately when possession was lost and it seemed to be quite effective. Ash had a great chance to seal the win five minutes from time when Matt Brunt was presented with a good opportunity on the edge of the Camberley penalty area but he struck his shot over the crossbar.

In the final minute of normal time, Camberley gained possession on the right wing after substitute David Clarke had forced a throw in. The ball was laid back for Ian Messenger who sent a curling ball into the penalty area. John Finneston took the ball on his chest but was bundled over as he looked to get a shot in. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot for the third time of the match. Tom McGarry stepped up to plant the penalty low into the corner of the net and wipe away the memory of the missed penalty in the league match.

Camberley held out for the few minutes of stoppage time and will now meet Badshot Lea in the final at Aldershot Town's Recreation Ground on Thursday, May 3rd.
