A poor first half Camberley
performance gave visitors and local rivals Cove the upper hand in
this match. Both sides had an early chance to open the scoring.
Cove's came after just three minutes when a corner was cleared to
the edge of the penalty area for Matt Watson but he saw his shot
saved by Carl Clayton in the Camberley goal. Two minutes later
Camberley created a good chance through Mitch While, who attempted
to lob the Cove keeper but that too was comfortably saved.
Cove then started to create the better chances, John Finneston twice going close before finally opening the scoring on 24 minutes. Ben Cobbett was penalised for tugging Finneston's shirt in the penalty area and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Finneston stepped up to convert the spot kick himself. Camberley started the second half it a more determined mood but soon found themselves 2-0 down. In the 49th minutes a low drilled corner was allowed to travel into the centre of the penalty area when Jeff Cavey, rifled the ball into the back of the Camberley net. Only after going 2-0 down did Camberley start to show any fight and determination. Set pieces looked Camberley's best way into the match and from one of these Paul Dadson went close to leveling the scores, hitting the crossbar with a header on 69 minutes. On 80 minutes Camberley managed to pull a goal back when a good run from Mitch While saw him set up John Swift to fire home his first goal for Camberley. Camberley pressed and looked for an equaliser but Cove were well marshaled at the back. With just a few minutes left on the clock, Camberley substitute Chris Bazen went closest to equalising with an effort that hit the Cove post but bounced away to safety |
