15th November 2006 : Nescafe Allied Counties League South Division

Camberley held on to the top spot on Wednesday night when they entertained a useful Alton Town side at Krooner Park. Camberley looked to be on the way to victory after having the better of the first half and taking the lead through a dipping shot from Jason Reeves. The lead was extended with what was the best goal seen at Krooner this season so far. Alan White picked the ball up midway into the Alton half, took the ball through a crowded midfield, evading two challenges towards the right touchline before taking the ball round the outside of the Alton defence, beating another three players as he made his way into the penalty area and then firing a shot across face of goal, past the keeper and into the bottom left hand corner of the net. Camberley looked confident as the half time whistle approached but Alton put the seed of doubt in the minds of player and supporter alike as Steve Brown ran onto a cross from the right to power home a header in the 44th minute.

Alton came out for the second half, fired up by the goal and had by far the better of the opening exchanges in the second half and got a deserved equaliser in the 64th minute when substitute Sam Carpenter was tripped up in the box. Carpenter stepped up and converted the penalty himself. With 10 minutes left on the clock and Alton getting on top a third goal arrived for the visitors. With one defender hanging back as the others tried to deploy an offside trap, James Carroll found himself in space. He advanced into the penalty area and finished clinically past Kris Hatton in the Camberley goal. Camberley were not beaten though and they hit back to level the scores with four minutes left to go. Alex Jeffers scored his first goal back after injury with a clever lob over the head of the Alton keeper. Both sides went flat out for the win. Subs Hadley Paine and Nick Brand went close for Camberley and Steve Brown and Sam Carpenter went close for Alton but neither side could manage a winner. The draw was enough to prevent Alton from leapfrogging over Camberley to the top of the table
