At half time Camberley were reasonably confident of gaining some points from this game but an excellent second half performance from the visitors saw them take away all three points. Chertsey started quickly and took the game to Camberley in the early stages and had two efforts at goal inside the first five minutes. Matt Grave firing over and Luke Muldowney forcing a save from Carl Clayton with a 20 yard shot. Camberley came more into the game as the half wore on. On 7 minutes Martyn Williams latched on to a Nick White free kick to head wide and five minutes later Mitch While had a glancing header from another Nick White set piece which Chertsey keeper Tony Oval had to turn away for a corner. Both sides continued to create chances. Camberley had a couple of efforts through Martyn Williams and Mitch While before the half hour mark, which both failed to trouble the keeper. For Chertsey, Jon Pomroy and Jamal DaCosta both caused problems with their pace. Pomroy twice having good chances but both went inches off target. There were also chances for Scott Wadge, Matt Grave and defender Billy Jones which also went wide of the mark Like the previous week at Cobham, Camberley were slow out of the blocks at the start of the second half and once again paid the price. On 49 minutes Chertsey snatched the lead when Kevin Cleary centered for Jon Pomroy to head home the opening goal from six yards out. It was a lead that Chertsey were determine not to relinquish and they stepped up a gear and went in search of a second. Pomroy fired over from 25 yards just after the goal and then, on 57 minutes, had the ball in the back of the net again but was flagged for offside. Luke Muldowney also went close for the visitors, firing over the crossbar. Camberley had to wait until just after the hour mark for their next chance. Again it came from a Nick White set piece and again it was a header wide of the post, this time from Paul Dadson. On 63 minutes, Chertsey opened up a two goal advantage, Scott Wadge breaking through the Camberley offside trap and lofting the ball over the advancing Carl Clayton. Ten minutes later, Chertsey put the result beyond doubt. Jon Pomroy clearly pushed Tom McGarry out of the way as he went for a floated ball over the top of the Camberley defence. Unfortunately it was on the blind side of the referee and there was no assistants flag waved. As Camberley appealed for the free kick, Pomroy went on to fire his shot against the left post and the rebound was collected by Steve Baker and he slammed home the third goal of the match. Camberley now sensing defeat made a double substitution in order to try and change the situation but to no effect. Chertsey comfortably held onto their three goal advantage CAMBERLEY : Carl Clayton, Scott Brighty (Rob Dixon 62m), Nick White (Ben Cobbett 74m), Adam Galvin, Tom McGarry, Paul Dadson, Jamie Hoppitt, Chris Bazen, Mitch While, Martyn WIlliams (Rob Lance 74m), Graham Townsend |
