North Greenford United (1) 2 Camberley Town (0) 3
30th September 2006 : Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division

What looked like being another below par performance ended with a rousing finish as Camberley fought back from 2-0 down to win 3-2, aided by a sending off.

Both sides looked to be measuring each other up in the opening stages, North Greenford had the first opportunity after just two minutes after Camberley gave away the first of what was to be a number of free kicks away on the edge of their own penalty area. Dwayne Bryant firing over. Dean Thomas set up the first chance for Camberley on 6 minutes, teeing up Adam Galvin for a shot that Kyle Bunning had to fling himself across goal for, in order to turn the ball round the post. As in the Haywards Heath game, Camberley looked too casual and their did not seem to be any 'get up and go' in their play and few chances were created. Most of the chances were happening at the other end. Richard Gell had a good opportunity from another of the free kicks given away too close to the edge of the Camberley penalty area. Fortunately this was another that flew over the bar. Camberley's front line lacked the pace to bother North Greenford's well organised defence and the only other chance of note in the first half came on 42 minutes with a Martyn Williams shot that found it's way into the keepers arms. A minute before the half time break, Camberley were to pay for giving too many free kicks away. This time a headed flick on found Michael Peacock in space, inside the penalty area. With the Camberley defence caught standing, he directed a volley just inside the left hand post and out of the reach of Clayton.

With the second half only three minutes old Camberley found themselves 2-0 down. Caught on the break, poor defending saw all three defenders approach Dwaine Bryant, the man on the ball to close him down leaving Michael Reed free and unmarked to recieve a pass and hammer a low shot past Carl Clayton. The game changed on 56 minutes when Dwayne Bryant was sent off for stamping on Paul Dadson, one of a number of controversial decisions by a referee who was far too quick to blow his whistle. Several players on both sides got frustrated when looking to play advantage following a foul on a team mate only to be called back by the referee. With a man advantage, Camberley, pushed on and started to create some chances through Tom McGarry and Paul Stevens but on both occasions keeper Bunning was well positioned to save. Dean Thomas then had a header saved under the bar and the Ben Cobbett fired wide from a very tight angle following excellent work from Martyn Williams.

The 72nd minute double substitution which saw Waynes Sale and Paul Stevens replaced by Jamie Hoppitt and Rob Lance turned the game on it's head. Camberley now had two fresh pairs of legs running at the opposition defence from midfield. On 74 minutes, Camberley got the break through. Ben Cobbett's cross from the left was angled into the penalty area. Although out of the reach of Martyn Williams it wasn't for Rob Lance who dived in to head the ball past Bunning for Camberley's first goal in open play for 371 minutes. It seemed to take a weight of the Camberley lads shoulders and six minutes later the scores were level. Dean Thomas played a ball aimed for Williams who at this point was in an offside position, the referee's assistant started to raise his flag but quickly lowered it as the ball took a deflection out to the right wing. The ball was quickly played in towards the edge of the penalty area where Jamie Hoppitt ran on to it, through the defence and then calmly slotted the ball past the keeper and just inside the far post.

Two minutes from time, Camberley pinched all three points with the winner. Ben Cobbett was tripped over on the left touchline. North Greenford set up a five man wall expecting a cross into the box. Instead Cobbett laid the ball square inside to the edge of the penalty area where Adam Galvin left fly, unchallenged with a shot that beat keeper Kyle Bunning and found the back of the net via the underside of the North Greenford crossbar.

Ten man North Greenford made and effort to level things in the final few minutes but Camberley held firm to clinch three much needed points that maintained their ninth position in the league.
