Camberley Town (0) 0 Wembley (0) 0
5th September 2006 : Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division

Camberley, who are fairly often slow starters, took the game to Wembley from the off. On 6 minutes Camberley went very close to scoring when Dan Ker crossed for Paul Dadson the head goalwards. The ball looked to be header just under the crossbar but keeper, Lee Pearce, a man of big build, acrobatically tipped the ball over for a corner. Camberley went close again on 15 minutes when Dave Hancock managed to swivel and hook the ball goalwards from a half cleared corner, only to find Pearce again diving to his right to save. Pearce was in outstanding form and Camberley were denied by him again three minutes later when Mitch While shot from an angle. While became provider for Hancock on 22 minutes. This time Hancock's on target shot was comfortable for the keeper.

Camberley did finally beat the keeper on 31 minutes when Paul Dadson headed the ball home, but unfortunately, he did not beat the offside trap and the goal was ruled out thanks to a referee's assistants flag. Wembley's best chance of the half arrived on 365 minutes after Jon Holman had conceded a free kick on the right hand edge of the penalty area. Clayton lost the ball in the glare of the floodlights and spilled the ball at the feet of Augustine but was quick enough to smother Augustine's effort. Camberley's nerves finally rested after Tom McGarry hit his clearance against a Wembley striker and it rebounded out for a goal kick.

The dying moments of the first half saw the games most controversial moment when Pearce came sliding out of goal to deny Mitch While a shot on goal. Pearce slid out of the penalty area with the ball still in his hands. As Camberley's front players appealed for the free kick, Pearce released the ball and attempted to clear, only to be dispossessed by Danny Ker. Only once Ker had controlled and went to slide the ball into the back of the empty Wembley net, did the referee blow his whistle to award Camberley a free kick for the handball. Pearce must have been mightily relieved when the referee only awarded him a yellow card as a red card looked a distinct possibility.

The second half saw both sides create chances. Wembley went close on 55 minutes when a cross was not cleared effectively by Clayton and landed at the feet of Paul Shelton, who saw his shot blocked. The ball rebounded into the path of Stephen Augustine, unmarked on the penalty spot. The odds were on Augustine scoring but he fired wide of the right hand post to Camberley's relief. Soon after Camberley almost hit a fluke goal when David Hancock's cross from 40 yards out on the right almost found to far top corner of the net, but a back peddling Pearce managed to pluck the ball out from under the crossbar before it crossed the line. Camberley had three further good chances that saw Mitch While head over and Sam Broadbent and Martyn Williams fire across goal.

The last ten minutes saw Wembley step up a gear and look to clinch a win to send them level at the top of the table. Camberley worryingly conceded a number of free kicks and corners in the latter stages, but despite the danger caused by the Wembley front two, Camberley defended well to earn a 'share of the spoils'
